New York in the Spring

These are a few drawings from this spring. I haven't done a lot of Plein Aire work lately, but for a few months in the winter and spring I was doing a lot of work from life all around the city. For these drawings I would set out late in the morning with a coat and fingerless gloves and sometimes walk for half the day before I found something I wanted to draw. As often as not the subject was determined more by the angle of the light than the setting itself. Finding a nice place to sit was also a factor. These drawings came from sessions at a park bench in Madison Square Park, a booth in a diner in SoHo and the edge of the elevated JMZ line in Brooklyn, respectively.
